MEET
THE ORIGINAL TAP WATER GIRL™
When
she was growing up, Dr. Shirley Garrett could not decide
if she wanted to be Miss America, Lucille Ball, or Miss
Kitty. She achieved none of those goals, but she did become
the author of the best selling book, A Tap Water Girl In
a Bottled Water World. The book chronicles Shirley’s
adventures from living in an orphanage to becoming a Doctor
of Education. Since the publication of her book, Shirley
has heard from women and men from all over the country who
were touched by her coming-of-age escapades – and
you will be, too. From those challenging early experiences
to a life filled with abundance, Shirley captures the essence
of what it means to believe in ourselves and to understand
who we are at our core.
The book won a prestigious award from Writer’s
Digest and Shirley was nominated for Author of the Year
by the Georgia Writer’s Association. The opening chapter
of Tap Water Girl was featured in Southern Lady magazine
and the book made the top 10 best selling list with the
Birmingham News. Shirley has been interviewed on numerous
television and radio talk show throughout the country.
Besides writing, Shirley is a full time professional
speaker who helps audiences create compelling connections
with themselves, and most importantly, the people in their
lives and the profession they serve. Her delivery style
is humorous, yet sincere, as she weaves personal anecdotes
throughout her presentation. Shirley is a popular keynoter,
workshop leader, and retreat facilitator who speaks to associations
and organizations throughout the country. Her gift for normalizing
life/work stressors helps create a sense of connection among
the audience . . . a realization that “we’re
all in this together” focus.
Known affectionately as Dr. Shirl, Shirley’s
southern humor and common sense approach, coupled with heartfelt
wisdom will entertain and challenge you.
